OH NO ..... A Problem - on our way for a fix

Well, as it happens with Motorhomes, we developed a problem in Nauvoo.  We have two systems for heat and/or hot water.  One is a electric that works OK, and the other is through the Diesel which pumps out the heat and/or hot water.
The diesel system has kicked the bucket (in spite of preventitve service before we left).  Monaco found us a dealership in Louisville, KY that can take us in.  That means serious rerouting.  But, hey!, that's OK cause we're on vacation.
So, off we went, got stuck in an accident detour and then lost because of a construction detour ... but we ended up getting through the construction rather than doing the detour in ....  guess where this is?

One last look at Temple grounds

It is funny how one is drawn to the Temple ... we drove by several times, taking pictures each time.
This last time we parked in front to just ..... stare.

How high is the Corn in the field

OK, I'm short, but not THAT short ...

Nauvoo's splendor

Bill and I attended at the Temple.  It was just amazing.  I think that this just might be my favourite.  Because of our travels, we have the opportunity to go quite a few of them.  Up to now, Cardston has been my favourite, then SLC.  But now, this one is probably the best of them all.
One of the most amazing parts is that you can just feel the spirits of those Saints that left it all behind.
I have always loved President Hinkley, but he was truly inspired to bring this Temple back to life.

Nauvoo is absolutely magnificent in the fall.

Omaha Temple

Right next to the Omaha Temple sits the Pioneer Cemetary.  It is a large cemetary with very few headstones.  As the wintering Saints had many illnesses, many died, especially the children.  They were buried but no headstones were placed.  But the plots were carefully laid out so there are excellent records of the names and family relationships.  Later, for awhile after the Saints left, others moved in and used the cemetary for only a short while.  They were able to erect headstones for their dead.

Winter Quarters (Omaha Nebraska)

After the Saints arrived at Council Bluffs (the far west of the "then" U.S.A., the government asked that 500 men be called to the Mormon Brigade to help fight the Mexicans.  The men grudgingly agreed so that their families could travel across the Missouri River to live peacefully for up to 2 years at what is now northern Omaha.  The Saints were able to grow crops and regroup before they left for Utah.

The picture is of a statue of a family dragging a hand-cart and of Bill inside the Center trying his hand(s) at the same.

Council Bluffs/Kanesville

Here we are at Council Bluffs/Kanesville Tabernacle.  This is where Brigham Young was sustained as Prophet/President of the Church.  The original Tabernacle was only a couple of 100 yards/metres away from this copy, but was built on land that had a natural spring that eroded the foundation away so it was a bad choice.  Because the members were on their way west, it was not rebuilt at that location.

Our K-9 travelling companions

Bill and I have 3 dogs.  Clockwise from top left is Katie (sleeping), our elderly Hurricane Katrina rescue beagle from New Orleans, followed by our 2 year old Coton des Tulear from Montreal (oooooh, he's shy) and then little Capri, 6 months, born in Calgary - also a Coton.  Capri is VERY personable and is everyone's friend.  They are excellent travelling in the close confines of the MH.

Here is where the MH has been up to now:

From the fall of 2008 until now, we have been able to put some coloured "provinces" and "states" on our map.  The rest are blank.  Check back and see the changes as we colour them in.

Beginning of Trip

We left Calgary on a sunny Saturday - Oct. 17, 2009. It took a bit: several false starts, but off we went just after noon. First night at Dick's RV Park in Great Falls.

Second night was at Sheridan, WY at a lovely KOA park. Dogs love the RVing lifestyle.
